About the event

Take your learning beyond the screen and into the field. This in-person course is designed for professionals and community leaders who want to apply the science of carbon cycles, nature-based solutions, and the Miyawaki method to real sites. Building on the foundations from the Getting Started with Pocket Forests online course, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to plan, establish, and monitor pocket forests as part of your personal or organizational carbon portfolio.

What You’ll Do

  • Explore different forest types and site conditions directly in the field.

  • Practice species selection and layered planting design.

  • Apply carbon estimation methods using the Pocket Forest Hub.

  • Learn monitoring techniques for long-term ecological and carbon benefits.

  • Collaborate with peers in designing a climate-positive micro-forest.

Who Should Attend

Professionals, educators, and community members with a strong interest in climate action and ecological restoration. Completion of the online course is recommended before registering.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the Miyawaki method to design and plant a pocket forest.

  • Estimate above-ground biomass and carbon sequestration in small-scale forest plots.

  • Evaluate how different forest types contribute to local and global carbon cycles.

  • Integrate a newly established forest into the Pocket Forest Hub for ongoing monitoring.

Format

3-hour intensive, outdoor session. Includes practical fieldwork and group activities.
