Overview
This course explores how circular economy thinking can change the way we design, build, use, maintain, and recover value from the built environment. You will look at buildings, interiors, infrastructure, landscapes, energy, water, and materials as connected systems rather than isolated objects. Across the course, you will learn how design decisions can reduce resource strain, retain existing value, reduce climate impacts, and support healthier material and ecological systems. The course contains with five modules presented through videos, readings and interactive content to support your learning . Each module introduces one part of circular economy thinking in the built environment: what circularity means, how design decisions retain value, how materials relate to climate impacts, how energy, water, and materials move across scales, and how regenerative design extends these ideas. Upon successful completion of this online program and knowledge assessment, learners will earn a Certificate of Completion from Beyond21 Academy in partnership with Mohawk College's School of Climate Action. This Certificate of Completion can be applied as credit to the full Mohawk College Micro-credential in "Circular Economy for the Built Environment" that includes an additional 18 hours of live and in-person coursework.
